Engineering Scope

17 years ago, Sondrel specialised in providing expert RTL2GDS engineering support. Today, as well as continuing to supply experienced engineers in this specialism through our ODC function, we now cover the full spectrum of IC design services. Our capabilities and expertise extend from architecture through the design process and into the manufacturing and packaging phases of chip delivery.

Our engineering expertise is underpinned by a deep technical understanding of advanced processes and design techniques, enabling us to produce designs with the highest combination of power efficiency and performance. We ensure that every nanometre of space on our client's chip is used as effectively as possible.

From architecture to production silicon, our engineers include architects, designers, verification and DfT experts, packaging specialists and embedded software engineers.

Sondrel operates from design centres in the UK, France, Morocco, India and China. These are multi-room secure facilities with an IT infrastructure, providing the best environment for our customers and engineers to deliver successful projects and specific consultancy tasks.

We are independently audited to certify to the internationally recognised ISO 27001 Information Security Management Standard by the British Assessment Bureau. The certification assures our clients and staff alike that we are actively committed to the security of confidential information and have processes in place to minimise data security risks.

Each client engagement has the commercial, project management and technical leadership in place to ensure that communication channels are clear, focused and efficient.
We'll do the bulk of the project work in our design centres, though kick-off meetings, tape-outs and key project phases may require our engineers to attend the client's site.

Embedded Software Services

The quality, flexibility and implementation of your embedded software is a vital differentiator for your SoC design. 

Sondrel’s software team includes device driver and virtual platform developers, providing embedded software expertise to support complex design projects. Strict coding standards and best practices in coding are applied. Sondrel also shares source trees and internal review systems to aid customer transparency.

Our advanced skill-set includes architectural design, debug for multi-CPU, multi-threaded systems, software optimisation skills for tuning task priorities and performance, and functional stress testing to evaluate effects of latencies and bandwidth. 

Design and Verification Expertise

Sondrel’s expertise covers specification development, RTL design, functional verification and DfT structures creation, insertion and pattern generation. These can all be offered as within a fixed price project model or for client team augmentation. Customers can request support for each or all of these tasks.

Our engineers operate from remote and secure design centres using an engagement manager, technical team lead and follow well-defined communication and execution practices.

We support clients with both functional and static verification. Functional verification is based on C test cases running in a UVM environment with QVIP based and assertion checks. Where a customer is using e/eRM this is also supported, and a porting service is available should the customer wish to migrate their environment across to SV/UVM.

Physical Implementation & DfT

Sondrel’s experience in delivering successful tape-outs on large scale advanced node projects goes back 15 years and on more than 100 projects. We work with world-leading technology companies to deliver challenging specifications that push the design boundaries of power, performance and area.

2018 has seen a sharp rise in demand for <10nm projects. Sondrel has multiple engagement teams working at such nodes and dealing with complex layout and timing challenges as well as implementing IPs yet to be tested on silicon.

Top level or block level, fixed price (including CAD tools, design flow and IT infrastructure) or team augmentation, we can support your RTL2GDSII requirements with a technically excellent team of engineers. Teams can include specialist DfT engineers able to create optimised test strategies to meet customer test coverage targets in the most efficient way.
