Commercial Manager
This is a part time role either 3 days a week or school hours. This role is hybrid and ideally would be based in our Theale office.
The purpose of the Commercial Manager role is to oversee all commercial and procurement aspects of Sondrel's business relationships with clients and suppliers globally. The Commercial Manager will be responsible for drafting, negotiating and managing contracts, with customers and suppliers, driving compliance with contractual obligations, and identifying and mitigating commercial risk.
The Commercial Manager will work closely with internal teams and external legal counsel as needed to align commercial objectives with company capabilities and resources and provide support to senior management to inform decision-making.
What you will be doing
Contract/Supplier Management
- Support the negotiation of client and supplier contracts, driving terms and conditions that are favourable for Sondrel and align with company policies and objectives.
- Review and analyse client and supplier contracts to identify potential risks, liabilities, and opportunities for improvement.
- Draft a range of contractual agreements with customers and suppliers
- Ensure key terms are “back-to-back” across customer and supplier agreements
- Support effective change management processes across all customer and supplier contract
- Review all tender submissions to identify and enable mitigation potential risks
- Produce and maintain contract summaries, obligation trackers, change logs and other contract management tools across all customer and supplier contracts
- Work collaboratively with Project Managers to monitor and report on contract and supplier performance, including identifying, drafting and negotiating contract amendments.
- Work with the Project managers to drive timely and cost-effective delivery of goods and services.
- Drive compliance with contractual obligations and manage any disputes or issues that arise.
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients and suppliers on commercial and procurement matters, addressing inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
Commercial Strategy
- Support commercial strategy planning activities across new business and in life contracts
- Identify solutions for effective risk management across all customer and supplier contracts
- Collaborate with senior management to define and align commercial objectives with overall company strategy.
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Maintain contract templates and standard terms and conditions in collaboration with wider business as needed
- Collaborate with internal teams to forecast and plan procurement needs
- Provide regular reports and analysis to senior management on customer and supplier contract performance
- Collaborate with finance and other departments to support accurate and timely reporting and forecasting in line with company reporting governance.
- Develop and maintain effective processes to enable timely and cost effective delivery of goods and services, aligned with customer contract requirements.
Other
- Manage retainer arrangements with external commercial and legal advisors
- Stay up to date with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to commercial management, procurement, and contracting.
- Provide training and guidance to other departments on commercial and procurement matters and best practices.
Qualifications
Essential
- Educated to degree level or commensurate experience
Desirable
- Professional certification in contract management e.g. IACCM or CIPS

- Proven experience as a Commercial Manager, Procurement Manager, or in a similar role.
- Strong commercial acumen and expertise in contract negotiation and management
- Ability to interpret complex legal and financial terms and conditions in contracts
- Good legal drafting skills
- Good understanding of intellectual property licencing and agreements
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to manage complex commercial and procurement discussions
- Good knowledge of commercial and procurement best practices, industry standards, and relevant regulations
- Proven ability to manage and resolve contract disputes and issues
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with professionals at all levels
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Strong analytical skills and data-driven approach to decision-making
- Willingness to travel as required to meet with clients, suppliers, and attend industry events
Desirable
- Experience in semiconductors, electronics, or a related industry.
- Experience with value-based pricing and developing creative commercial model
- Proficiency in a second language, particularly those spoken in key markets across EMEA
- Proven track record of successfully managing large, complex, and high-value contracts and procurement projects
- Experience with international commercial transactions, cross-border contracts, and global sourcing
